The Wettenberg plant emerged from the company Elan Schaltelemente GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in 1952, taken over by Schmersal in 1997 and integrated into K.A.Schmersal GmbH & Co. KG in 2012. Back in the eighties, the plant already developed switchgear with a human protection function. The Wettenberg plant also pioneered the development of safety-related bus systems and innovative solutions for the protection of robot stations. Today, the focus of the development activities is, amongst other things, on the important field of the safety-related control technology.
