In the global production network Wuppertal is the "Lead Factory", where new production and testing procedures are first tested.
Schmersal employs 750 employees in Wuppertal and is continually extending the location. In March 2007, the training centre tec.nicum entered into operation. In early 2008, a separate company kindergarten was opened, and in the summer of 2013, the new logistics centre began operations.
